Sri lankan Green Tea

Sri Lankan green tea, also known as Ceylon green tea, has a distinct flavor profile that sets it apart from green teas produced in other regions. The taste of Sri Lankan green tea can vary depending on factors such as the specific tea estate, elevation, climate, and processing techniques. Here are some common characteristics of Sri Lankan green tea:

  1. Bright and Brisk: Sri Lankan green teas are often described as having a bright and brisk flavor. This means they have a lively, refreshing quality with a slight astringency.

  2. Grassy and Herbaceous: They can have grassy and herbaceous notes, which can range from mild to quite pronounced. This imparts a fresh, vegetal quality to the tea.

  3. Citrusy: Some Ceylon green teas may have subtle citrus undertones, giving them a zesty, lively character. This can be reminiscent of lemon or lime.

  4. Sweetness: Depending on the specific tea and its processing, there may be a natural sweetness present, which can balance out any astringency.

  5. Clean Finish: Sri Lankan green teas are often praised for their clean, crisp finish. This means that after sipping, there isn’t a heavy aftertaste, allowing the natural flavors to shine.

  6. Medium-bodied: They typically have a medium body, which means they aren’t overly light or heavy on the palate.

  7. Less Bitterness: Compared to some other green teas, Sri Lankan green teas tend to be less bitter, but this can still vary depending on factors like steeping time and temperature.

  8. Complexity: Some higher-grade Sri Lankan green teas, especially those from specific estates or regions, can exhibit a complex interplay of flavors, with subtle nuances that tea connoisseurs appreciate.

Remember that individual taste perceptions can vary, so what one person describes as “grassy” or “citrusy” might be experienced slightly differently by someone else. The best way to understand the taste of Sri Lankan green tea is to try it for yourself!
